About dental implants – clearly

There are many triggers that can lead to tooth loss. These can include a heavily cavitated dentition, periodontal disease or an accident. Today's dentistry is very effective in tooth-preserving treatments, but in some cases tooth extraction is the only option. A missing tooth can be very disturbing, whether it is aesthetic, chewing or vocal.

However, what is true in all cases is that the loss of a tooth is usually accompanied by strong emotions, limitations, but above all questions. These are the questions answered by Dr. Zoltán Marton, implantologist and chief dental specialist at Marton.Dental Dentistry.

What dental solutions are available for missing teeth?

Dr. Marton: Tooth loss can be corrected with a fixed prosthesis, i.e. a bridge or a removable (partial or complete) prosthesis. In the former case, the teeth bordering the gap are ground down and the restoration is fixed with glue. The disadvantage is that two or more healthy teeth have to be “mutilated” in order to fix the restoration, and the gap between the bridge and the gum is less aesthetic. The latter, i.e. a removable prosthesis, is already a fairly large structure covering the palate and gums, and it often requires a lot of patience on the part of the wearer to get used to it. Other problems can include inadequate care and frequent mucosal inflammation. For these reasons, we recommend implants for those who are looking for a different solution.

What do we mean by dental implants?

Dr. Marton: In dentistry, an implant is an artificial root that is surgically implanted into the jawbone in place of the tooth root. This titanium alloy screw, once accepted by the body, ossifies and becomes immovably fixed. The various types of prosthesis can then be screwed onto this base. For a completely edentulous patient, up to 4 implants can be fixed.

What are the other benefits of implantation?

Dr. Marton: Implants not only replace missing teeth, but also ensure that the jaw is normally loaded during chewing. This ensures the natural functioning of the skeleton and avoids the dreaded bone loss. A stable implant-supported prosthesis guarantees the feeling of having your own tooth, increases the efficiency of chewing, and there are no other distracting prostheses (e.g. covering the palate) and it is much more comfortable to wear. In addition, with proper dental care and oral hygiene, the implant will truly last a lifetime.

And a beautiful smile in a day is not just a fairy tale?

Dr. Marton: Not at Marton.Dental. (laughs) Our dentistry is already working with the most modern procedures in the field of implantation. After the titanium screws, the roots of the artificial teeth, are surgically implanted in the jaw, the patient only has to wait a few hours and receives a temporary tooth replacement. This way, those who decide to have implants don’t have to worry about living toothless for weeks. You can leave our practice with a smile on the day of the procedure.
